JDYAA Off-Season Policy

The objectives of the JDYAA are to provide instructional youth sport programs that will allow the children of our community to learn good sportsmanship, self-control, responsibility, commitment, the respect for authority, the value of teamwork and the fundamental skills of various sports. One of the key elements of the JDYAA philosophy is to work in conjunction with our scholastic athletic programs to enhance those programs.

It is not the policy or intent of the JDYAA to become a substitute or a competitor to school sponsored activities. There are many opportunities for youth participation in off-season activities – i.e. summer basketball, winter (indoor) lacrosse, etc. Since these sports may be in competition with other in-season sports offered through the schools, it is the policy of the JDYAA not to manage any off-season sports. The JDYAA currently manages lacrosse programs in the spring, basketball programs in the winter and football programs in the fall. JDYAA will however loan excess equipment and/or uniforms from its existing inventory to any J-D area team in need of supplies. Additionally, the JDYAA website has a list of contacts for the various sports. Should a parent be interested in coaching an off-season sport, s/he should contact the JDYAA director of that sport to see what assistance is available.

The JDYAA will continue to grow (we added wresting in 2006 and contact football in the fall of 2001). We will continue to support our community AND our schools to the best extent possible. This policy will encourage youth participation in in-season school activities while allowing some flexibility in the resources of the JDYAA for participation in off-season sports. Thank you for your continued support of the JDYAA.
